Mesosphere (D2iQ) — Head of Design

2015 — 2018. San Francisco, California

For nearly 4 years I’ve lead a team of talented designers with an ambitious goal to enable companies to more easily manage, deploy, and run massive applications that serve billions of customers every day.

Mesosphere caters primarily to the enterprise market, serving customers like JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, Uber, Netflix, to name a few. For these companies and others like them, managing distributed systems is tricky, and writing distributed systems is even trickier. What’s more they have a complex infrastructure, running hundreds or thousands of servers either on-premise, in the cloud, or a hybrid of both. Managing this infrastructure and ensuring the production applications and services that enable their business are running and running effectively is tough work. Our mission is to make building and running these systems as easy as building or running an app on your smartphone. We call think of this as the modern datacenter and our product is the datacenter operating system (or DC/OS) that makes it all possible.

While leading design at Mesosphere I’ve been instrumental in driving a number of noteworthy projects. Some I’m more proud of include the development of the Mesosphere identity and brand, the Mesosphere DC/OS product user experience and interface, our public website, as well as several online properties. I’ve had the pleasure of hiring and working alongside a talented design team as well as collaborating equally talented engineers, product managers, marketers, and other stakeholders in bringing these projects to life.

The BKRY — Co-founder

2012 — 2015. New York, New York

The BKRY began as a partnership between myself and Paul Geller, a previous colleague and close friend. Our goal was to bring to market new digital products that we were collectively passionate about. Our first product set out to improve the way you organize the thing you love. Socialist, as it was called, allowed users to digital lists that were not only functional, but also collaborative. Though adoption of Socialist showed promise, we decided to sunset the product and The BKRY in order to focus our individual efforts on more exciting and promising opportunities.

Grooveshark — VP, Creative Director

2007 — 2012. Gainesville, Florida

As the driving creative force behind Grooveshark, the world's pioneering online streaming music platform, I played a pivotal role in its transformative journey. I joined the team in its infancy when we were housed in a cramped college apartment. Over the five years that followed, I witnessed and contributed to a company journey that, in no hyperbolic terms, could only be described as a rocket ship.

My role straddled two domains. On one front, as VP, Creative Director, I oversaw the brand and customer experience and a diverse and talented team of designers at Grooveshark. At the same time, I was one-half of the Head of the Product function, a role shared with the co-founder and CRO. I spearheaded the launch of multiple revolutionary iterations of our popular music-streaming platform. At our peak, we boasted a staggering 40 million active monthly music listeners, a testament to the success of Grooveshark's unique product experience. Today's leading music platforms draw inspiration from the innovative technologies and design approaches pioneered by Grooveshark.

Later, at Grooveshark, I relocated to New York, where I established our New York office. I built and led an exceptional team comprising designers, developers, and account managers. Together, we crafted pioneering, first-to-market branded experiences that seamlessly integrated Grooveshark's global appeal with the marketing strategies of Fortune 500 brands.

Unfortunately, during my last year at Grooveshark, the environment at the company was clouded by legal troubles – which in part led to my departure. Despite these struggles, I look at my time at Grooveshark with pride at what we built together, the impact we had on how music fans connect with artists, and the skills and relationships built by collaborating with so many amazing and talented people – all in our 20s!
